Small Plane Slams Into Davenport Airport Terminal

Davenport, IA — Investigations are continuing to determine what caused a small to roll about 200 feet, before slamming into a terminal building at the Davenport Municipal Airport Saturday, January 21, 2012, reported WQAD.
Police reported that 39-year-old Kevin Kadlec of Eagle River, Wis., had rented a Cessna 172 RG plane and was allegedly trying to start the engine manually, by spinning the propeller by hand, when the accident occurred just before 10:30 p.m. at the Carver Aero FBO terminal building.
The aircraft reportedly began to roll away from Kadlec and travel at a high rate of speed for about 200 feet, before it slammed into the building.
Thankfully, the building was not open at the time and no one inside sustained any injuries.
The aircraft’s nose smashed through a terminal window, and damaged both the exterior and interior of the building.
WQAD reported that Davenport Police spokesman stated: “There are numerous inconsistencies between what was reported by Kadlec and what evidence is present”…“The NSTB and the FAA have been notified and will be conducting follow up investigations.”
